Dependencies

This page lists the system dependencies required to run Dumber on different Linux distributions.

Arch Linux

Core GTK4, CEF, and WebKit fallback

sudo pacman -S gtk4 cef webkitgtk-6.0

VA-API (Hardware Video Acceleration)

sudo pacman -S libva libva-utils

For CEF hardware video decoding, cef-vaapi is available from the AUR as an optional CEF build.

VA-API Drivers (install one based on GPU)

Intel (Broadwell and newer):

sudo pacman -S intel-media-driver

Intel (older):

sudo pacman -S libva-intel-driver

AMD:

sudo pacman -S libva-mesa-driver

NVIDIA:

sudo pacman -S libva-nvidia-driver  # or nvidia-vaapi-driver from AUR

Vulkan

sudo pacman -S vulkan-icd-loader

Intel:

sudo pacman -S vulkan-intel

AMD:

sudo pacman -S vulkan-radeon

NVIDIA:

CEF Wayland rendering

CEF is Dumber's default engine. It uses the GPU-first Wayland stack: GDK DMABUF presentation with ANGLE/GSK Vulkan. No launch wrapper or render environment variables are required for normal use. For driver compatibility, set engine.cef.render_stack = "egl" (or DUMBER_ENGINE_CEF_RENDER_STACK=egl) to use the GtkGLArea/EGL/OpenGL stack.

Debian/Ubuntu

Core GTK4, CEF, and WebKit fallback

VA-API

NVIDIA: Requires manual setup or third-party PPA.

Vulkan

sudo apt install libvulkan1 vulkan-tools

Intel:

sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers

sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers

NVIDIA:

sudo apt install nvidia-vulkan-icd

GStreamer

Environment Variables

If auto-detection fails, you can force a specific VA-API driver:
